21.04.2008On the 20th of May the EU will celebrate the first European Maritime Day with the aim to generate greater public awareness of the importance of Europe’s oceans and seas.
Joe Borg, European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, will give the opening address on the 19th of May. President of the EP Hans-Gert Pöttering, Council President Janez Jansa, and Commission President Barroso, will sign the Joint Tripartite Declaration to establish this day. Meanwhile, several regional stakeholders around the EU will organise their own activities linked to the European Maritime Day.
