Oneseat, the campaign looking to put an end to the monthly trekking of the European Parliament from Brussels to Strasbourg, handed its petition with 1,000,000 signatures to the European Commission at 12:00 today. Nymand Christiensen, Director of Better Regulation and Institutional Issues, Directorat General, received the petition on behalf of the European Commission from MEPs Cecilia Malmström, Alexander Stubb and Alexander Alvaro, amongst others. The petition is the first of its kind and this initiative, led by Cecilia Malmström, member of the European Parliament for the Swedish Liberal Party, has been supported by many other MEPs who also marched from the European Parliament to the Barlaymont building today. The Oneseat campaign will now have to wait for an answer from the Commission and hope for a positive outcome. The decision to put an end to this moving can be made quite swiftly, but unfortunately may take years.
