This year´s awards were announced by Commissioner Siim Kallas during a ceremony at Brussels´ Renaissance hotel. The presenter of the evening, MEP Catherine Stihler, who is also Editor of the Parliament Magazine, stressed that the nominations for the accolade were taken from NGOs and not-for-profit organisations in Brussels. The winners for each category are:
Environment: Reimer Böge;
Research and Technology: Jerzy Buzek;
Health: Francoise Grossetete;
Development: Luisa Morgantini;
Justice & Fundamental Rights: Livia Jaroka;
Regional MEP: Konstantinos Hatzidakis;
Employment: Csaba Öry;
MEP Campaigner of the Year: Markus Ferber.
Ferber won the award for the role he played as the leader of the investigation in the alleged Strasbourg European parliament fraud.
