On the occasion of the French and North Rhine-Westphalian Year, the contest "Energy/Climate" was initiated by the French-German Society for Science and Technology with the support of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia among North Rhine-Westphalian and French sister cities. The twining programmes between Cologne/Lille, Kaarst/La Madeleine and Lemgo/Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy have been distinguished for their future-oriented decisions and action in the fight against resource scarcity and climate change, but first for their mutual consultation. Mr. Michael Mertes, North Rhine-Westphalia’s Secretary of State for Federal and European Affairs and Media and Envoy from the State of Rhine-Westphalia to the Federal Government, handed over the prize and the certificates to the representatives of these six French and German cities in the presence of Mr. Gilles Thibault, the jury chairman and Consul General of France in Düsseldorf, and of Mr. Volker Knoerich, deputy chairman of the DFGWT. The ceremony took place in the Brussels Representation of the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia to the European Union.
